Healthy connections to others and to ourselves are the foundation of a satisfying and meaningful life. At Asch Therapy Group, we work in a warm and active style, providing both concrete tools for change as well as the necessary exploration of deeper issues to facilitate that change. We focus on the patterns of emotions, behaviors and beliefs we develop as children as we learn to get our needs met. We help clients explore the ways in which these patterns (often the best options in the past) might not be serving them well in their adult lives. In fact, they may be at the root of the emotional and interpersonal problems we face. Our emotions can provide important guidance for achieving healthy change in our lives. They can help us understand our needs and take action in trying to get them met. They inform us about our past and deepen our understanding of our present. They shape our experience of ourselves and of the people around us. Emotions can also be quite difficult to manage, leading us to behave in ways that are counterproductive in our relationships and damaging to our sense of ourselves. Often our meta-emotions (our feelings about our feelings) such as shame or fear cause an additional layer of complexity and challenge as we try to create meaningful and fulfilling lives. Therapy can provide a safe and nurturing place to develop a deeper understanding and concrete tools which will better enable you to meet your goals.
